WOYWW 219, Whats on your work desk Wednesday

Welcome to this weeks 'Whats on Your Work Desk Wednesday' - its the time when over 100 crafters join up and compare what is on their desks on this day, and its hosted by Julia here stamping-ground blogspot
in case you might want to take a look at every else's desk, or even join in yourself.

Here is mine for this week'

I know, its not quite as tidy as last week, told you it wouldn't last.  My last two blog posts explain the drawing, or should I say the 'learning to draw' and I am finding it great fun.  Has to be done on my desk easel or drawing board though, I suffer from terrible neck strain so have to have my work raised, and not be tempted to sketch from my chair, which of course I do then suffer for it.
In case you want a closer look, here is the one I am working on at the moment..
I am going to try keep it a bit shorter this week, before I get into trouble for too much waffling.  So, in brief, OH is ok now thank you to all who asked - hours are long, but he is going to be driving next month, it costs more to get to work but saves nearly 3 hours of travelling, would be doing it now but we 'foolishly' bought a months train ticket as it worked out cheaper that way.
Mum is stable, no thanks to our rubbish NHS who appear to have little regard for the elderly.

.. and the weather, yes I know... what can I say? I'm British, its all we talk about... its lovely, and much cooler, especially at night so sleeping is now possible.

There is a 'chance'  just a 'chance' you might get to see the sewing machine out of its cover next week, as I have an idea for a new project - so that will make a change from sketches, and art journal pages.

Thank you so much for visiting me, and all the lovely comments from last time.  I do get around as many desks as I can, not enough time for over 100 comments but do a selection.

  1. I much prefer an untidy desk to a tidy one - I like to see all the activity!

Glad to hear your mum is stable and also that OH can reduce his travelling time.

I'm loving this cooler weather too!

  5. Thanks for dropping in Lynda, much appreciated. Sorrel says 'hi' as well, she is our little Yorkie/Bichon cross and a sweetie. Can just see a photo of yours near your machine, cute.
Admire your portrait drawing, I'm useless at art, more of a crafty woman myself.

  7. Untidy just means productive. Tidy means nothing going on. Well that's what I believe anyway.

  9. Your drawing looks fantastic, so pleased to hear that work for DH is working out but cutting the travel time down is imperative to keep sanity and it will be less taxing in the end. Glad to hear mum in on the up and up, you have to watch all medical people so they don't cut corners. some people just shouldn't be in the industry.

Hope your week is good and you craft heaps.

    Happy WOYWW

  16. I think your sketching is coming along just fine...but it funny how you can't draw if you're uncomfortable. Hopefully you've found a position that means you can work easily. But I also like the sewing machine threat too...bring it on, girlfriend!! We need more fabric craft on WOYWW!! What are you planning, eh?? We need to know!

Sorry to read about your mum not being well. Thanks for comments re mine on my blog. My mum has heart problems among other things and at the moment I am not impressed by the way it's all being handled!!! Unfortunately I live in Midlands and mum is in Somerset. My sister lives down there but is too 'tied up' in other things ( but another story) Anne x #77

  24. That sketch is looking great - lovely expression, really animated. I'm so sorry your mum is getting a raw deal from the NHS. It is such a familiar story. They are badly stretched and so the elderly are abandoned: disgraceful. We've had very similar experiences with my mum. Have a great WOYWW, thanks for stopping by mine earlier. Sorry I'm a bit late. It's been a busy day! Julie Ann xx #39

  27. Happy WOYWW Lynda and thanks for visiting me.

Your drawing is really coming along nicely, I bought myself a set of books on how to draw and then didn't do it, I really should have a go. I used to like art but didn't think I was any good, the teacher tried to persuade me to carry on but I gave it up at 0 level.

It is not only Sooty, but Alfie too who chase cats, bark at cats and chase the birds too! There are two cats that come through, they are very cheeky, and one of them has been known to taunt the dogs through the window! The neighbour the other side of the hedge told me that the other one goes into their house, it is their neighbour's cat, they have 3!

Glad hubby is better, and sorry about your Mum.

  28. I forgot to say, I visit everyone who ends with my end number, then everyone who commented after that, and then some of the latecomers who don't get a lot of comments! Oh and maybe a few favourites, all depending if I have the time!

  29. I'm in awe of people who can draw faces, I won't even go there as mine tend to have noses on top of their heads or ears too low etc. Yours is fabulous and great proportions, plus there is character in her face. I think that is the most important thing when drawing faces and you have captured it well. I can understand your hubby deciding to drive if it save three hours, that's huge. We are very lucky here in Australia, our health system is fabulous. I hope your mum gets treated better now.
    Have a great week.

  32. love the drawings...I can understand the stiff neck issues...happens to me too! I wish we had a train or bus system here in the USA but...can't fight bureucracy. If they can push the price of oil up and make more money then they will. Sorry to hear about your Mom hope she is getting better treatment now! Thanks for sharing and thanks for stopping by my desk and commenting today. Vickie #137

  33. Sadly the NHS does not have a very good record these day on caring for the older members of our families - lack of nurses and the old fashioned State Enrolled Nurses who used to fill that day to day caring role. I still think the modern way of having small six bedded rooms within wards does not help. The older type of ward, long with a row of beds on either side, did allow the staff to keep an eye on everyone much more easily. Your drawing skills are really coming on in leaps and bounds. Faces are so hard, but you have got real expression into that one. Thank you for your visit this week, and have a great time continuing with your course. xx Maggie #116

  35. I can't draw a straight line, so your face is gorgeous. I'm super impressed. You make lovely art, even though you suffer when you do. That's true devotion to your art.

Thanks for dropping by while I slept. Happy slightly late WOYWW from #1.

  38. So glad to hear about your DH getting a shorter commute soon, well time wise at least. And sewing machine...can't wait to see what new project you're cooking up! :) Thanks for stopping by my desk and leaving me such a sweet comment...I have more fabric in boxes but I put the shelves up and folded some of the fabric and put it on them in the hopes that seeing it will inspire and prod me into using it, before I drown in excess fabric! lol :) Enjoy the rest of WOYWW! 41. I'm glad to hear your hubby can cut his travelling time, Lynda - especially if he's not feeling too well. I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. Your drawings are amazing...

Thanks for your lovely comment. Sorry to be so long replying but I've been having problems commenting on quite a few blogs. I am now trying Google Chrome so we'll see how that goes - so far so good! Since my WOYWW post, I have been feeling amazingly better - after only 3 days the medication has rendered me pretty well symptom free from the colitis - long may it last! I am amazed at how quickly it started working because I was told 2-4 weeks before I could expect any improvement.

IBS can remit and relapse - hope yours doesn't return! I suffered terribly with it before I was married, and thought my current problems were because it had returned. I now wonder whether it had been colitis all along, although I think they'd have discovered it at the time.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  43. I'm glad you stopped by mine (WOYWW#100). I have wanted to learn how to draw faces, but haven't tried but one so far. I've heard that having your work up on an easel helps with perspective. :)

  44. Hi Lynda, TY for being faithful week after week and stopping by and leaving such warm, and wonderful comments. It makes me feel truly happy in my heart. Your drawing skills are quite nice. I have been practicing faces, with not much luck. I've pumpped out a few whimsical faces, but nothing realistic. Hopefully I can get there. I keep a pad by my computer for practicing when I see YT tut's or a blog tut. I have managed a few alien like creatures, some whimsy, mostly trash bin worthy stuff though. You're so very right, this week has shown the graciousness of all our fellow bretherin here on WOYWW. It was my 1st ever mail-post and it was the best feeling EVER. But truly I feel that way week after week with all the lovely comments, words of encouragement, etc, I get from all you guys. How many people can say that??? (Well besides us woyww'er) Hope you had a fab weekend. (((HUGS)))
