What's on Your Work Desk Wednesday 214

Morning all, if I hurry up I just 'might' make it in the first hundred for WOYWW for a change, you can find all the other nosies and their wonderful work desks here http://stamping-ground.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-214.html its great fun to see what everyone else is up too.

I have had better weeks, a fair few nasties have reared this week making life a bit of a trial, so the arty stuff did take a back seat, I am now late for my Heartsong Arts Academy Challenge, and this week is a competition too, above is the beginnings of my canvas to enter - but dont look at the link, as I want to win the prize myself so dont want anyone else to enter, here is the information and details of the great prize to be won http://emerging-lotus-flowers.org/2013/07/07/07-07-13-heartsong-arts-academy-blog-hop-challenge-2/

Its also very hot for us here in the UK, I appreciate that other countries get weather much hotter, but many of us live in the UK as we prefer it cooler I am one of them.  Also for the amount of this awful heat we get it does not warrant air con, so my house is like a furnace now at all times - sleep is something that was in the dim and distant past as its way to hot for that.  Hopefully there is only another week at most of this, before my crayons start to melt and that would never do, might have to remove the food from the fridge and add the crayons.  (crayons = oil pastels)

Also on my work desk has been a custom card order that I got a bit behind on, its now all finished BUT now my car is broke so I cant get it to the post office now, typical.  I am a bit cross too as the OH (who is more than capable of fixing my car) tells me to drive it anyway, yeah right! you have never heard noises and squeaks like it, all very scary, plus if I got the dogs to the beach and it broke down its a long way to walk the old Lurcher back in the heat, so no car today or until OH can find the time to fix it.

Hope this wasnt too much waffle, tried to keep it short - off now to add my details to WOYWW and take a look at some of the others.  Sorry I didnt get round as many as I would have liked last week, will try do better this time.

  3. I am in NYC and we have had a heat wave all week and I am soooo done with the heat The hubby lives for this time of year, me, I can't wait for autumn! Your canvas is coming along great, love the colors together and papers. Good luck in the contest, and hope your car gets fixed soon (and yes, don't drive it, I don't like taking chances with getting stranded somewhere!) Your client will love the cards, they are so adorable. Winnie#90

  5. Have you got a hot water bottle? LOL... well, put COLD water in it and take it to bed with you... then you have a lovely cool spot for your feet and it makes you feel colder... honest!! :) Hope you get the car sorted soon... not the weather to be walking everywhere!! Annette #7

  6. I use a wheat pad which normally goes into the microwave to give heat. Over the past week, I have been putting it into the freezer and then putting it round the back of my neck - absolute heaven. I had not thought of putting my crayons and pastels in the fridge. Mind you, there is not much room in there that I could use. thank you for your visit today. The Bissell is a good machine, and, in fact, I have ordered another one. I think it has died due to true neglect and severe abuse, and lack of me clearing out all the dog hair it has collected. I shall get it repaired, especially as I think it is just a belt that has snapped. Once it is done, then I shall keep it upstairs so that I do not have to keep carrying it up and down, something else to make life a little easier. Have a good day, especially with the cooler air that seems to have arrived over the morning. xx Maggie #10

  7. wooo, thank you so much for the tips. Going to seek out a water bottle and I have zillions of wheat bags for my dodgy neck problem never thought of putting them in freezer, will do that later.

No, not the weather to be walking everywhere - humidity has got worse:(

  8. I'd move the food out and lie in it myself if I could!!! I've not thought of the wheat bag idea either, might go and try it myself - thanks Maggie! Sleep - what's that then?? Happy WOYWW! Karen 70 x

  9. Thanks for visiting me and for the tips you left! I really like the first picture. Such beautiful colors already! How do you keep your pastels from staining the other pages? :) I hope things will quiet down for you so you have time for creating :)

  10. good idea Karen, the fridge it is then.

Uniflame, I cant remember which country you are in, for the UK its 'greaseproof paper' to protect the pages, in the USA / Canada its Deli Paper.

  12. Hi Lynda, hope it's a bit cooler for you today. Crafting in this heat is fraught with troubles, didn't realise I was wandering round with a You Are Here rub-on welded to my arm all day yesterday! thanks for your visit, have a good week MMx #59

  13. Hi Lynda! I hope it cools down for you. The weatherman here said yesterday would be cooler, he lied! It was still over 100 degrees! And by all means, put the crayons in the fridge, I have melted mine in the hot temps. At least we get cool nights here. I'm putting out good thoughts of your canvas winning!!! It has great beginnings. Are those your dogs on the cards? What kind of dogs? BTW, you'll have to visit me as I mentioned you regarding dogs in my post today! Stay as cool as you can...and what is "OH"? Cool wishes Rasz #111

  14. Hiya Lynda, It's nice to have someone to grow up with on WOYWW. I live in the Southern US where Summers are 6 months long and HOT…HOT…HOT!!! I so don't like the heat. I try and limit my ventures outdoors in the Summer. I will be sending you good thoughts and Karma in hopes you win the Canvas Challenge. I see the Derwent Inktense bars on your desk. I have that same tin, I also have the pencils. I love the Inktense. Thanks for stopping by my desk and commenting. I started following your blog. Til next week. (((HUGS)))

  15. Sorry to hear you've had a bit of a week of it, Lynda. Like you, I can't stand this heat. Summer is my least favourite season of the year! At least in countries that have it more than we do, they are set up to deal with it better. How I would love air conditioning!!!

Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. Yes, it's such good news, the result of my test, and I am hoping for some improvement once I get some treatment. Having bowel problems on top of M.E. is not exactly helpful!! As for my new room, I thought the jealousy levels would go up a notch or two since last week. Loved your comment about being a lodger - the funny thing is, Mum will be living in a self-contained annexe in the house (she is 92) and when she dies, we will be letting it. I never thought of letting it to a crafter lol lol!!! What a great idea.

    Happy WOYWW,

  16. I'm sure my ink pad was melting yesterday - the ink was certainly really runny! I think I may be tempted to try to craft in my fridge now; would you like to join me - it's much bigger than our old one! Hope you win that prize! Julie Ann xx #55

  21. I hope your car is fixed now, or gets fixed real soon. Today is a bit cooler here in The Netherlands so I guess you had some shade and cooler temperatures too on your isle.. it certainly was too hot for me too! I like how it is today - so I can get behind the computer and visit blogs without melting! Happy ~ belated ~ woyww and a hug from Holland. Marit #91

  23. Sorry to hear it has been a rough week. I live in CA and our summers are HOT, and this year humidity has been added to the 100'F plus temperatures. Got sprinkled on yesterday on the way to Dr. appointment and it was 102'F. THAT is not supposed to happen in southern CA in the SUMMER!!! So I'm staying in today and getting around to as many desks as I can for WOYWW. Late is better than never...LOL

  24. Poor Lynda, I'm so sorry you have had a tough time with the brutally hot weather and the broken car and the irritating OH! We've all been there! I think your idea for putting the crayons in the fridge is genius! I hope it cools off soon, you get your car fixed, and you get caught up on your projects. Happy Belated WOYWW! Thanks for coming to see me at the Playhouse! Darnell #24

  25. It's funny isn't it, you feel like you should be enjoying the hot weather while it lasts, but really you don't - we're just not accustomed to it I guess. I do love to be able to open all the windows though - and early mornings and evenings are lovely too (except for the midges of course!):o) Annie C #68

  28. Sounds like you have got many trials going on right now and it's really too bad about your car because I would think the best way to escape the heat at home would be to go to the beach and spend oh, about all the waking hours of the day reclining in the water! Perhaps if your car actually went ahead and broke down somewhere that would necessitate your OH finally fixing it? Well, I hope things have gotten better and cooler and thank you for leaving a sweet comment on my desk already. I'll have to check your cards out as I'm sure they are every bit as neat, and more so, than mine! :) Deeyll #48

  29. LOL, I wish - afraid in our part of the UK you certainly DONT go in the water! were I live it takes an hour to walk to the sea, and the beach is not that clean either:(

Car is ok (ish) just had to order new brake pads now though, hey ho....
